It snows and blows up here on the Galeville hill

My dear wife Karen and I wondered how life at A Bitty Better would be when the first major snow hit our life in the Liverpool neighborhood of Galeville.

Big drifts.

Big drifts.

We woke up in deep Monday morning.

Sunday’s weather forecasts had me prepared for early shovel action.

Tunnel effect.

Tunnel effect.

Yet you don’t really know what you’re going to face until you get out there and do it.

What I'd put out the night before.

What I’d put out the night before.

My socked-in driveway and buried vehicles took me 70 minutes to clear.

Dagnabbit!

Dagnabbit!

And when I came in to tell Karen I was finished, the plow came by to deposit a new pile, oh, three feet wide by a foot high at the end of the driveway.

I had enough time to clear it again, though. Waiting for me on my phone was a text from the library’s emergency system. The snow two miles away in the Village of Liverpool had convinced my bosses to close the Liverpool Public Library for the day.

Postcard, anyone?

Postcard, anyone?

I jumped on our Facebook and Twitter pages to alert our patrons not to attempt to visit us. They could still take advantage of all of the great benefits of our site LPL.org, though.

I wondered the rest of Monday how many more times I would shovel before leaving for work Tuesday.

Have you had a big snow where you live yet? Have you ever had this much snow to clear where you live? Would you now hire a snowplow guy if you were me or stubbornly cling to the shovel?

  1. Goodness! Still never held a snow shovel in my hand, probably never will. We’re still running the a/c in the car while singing, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.” I guess we have to sing all carols tongue in cheek, while you actually live the lyrics.

  2. Looks beautiful and a little more beautiful was the fact that you got to stay home and enjoy it… or spend the day shoveling. In either case, still nice to spend it with the wife. We’re still waiting on our big snow dump of the year, but we’ve gotten a couple snow storms so far, so we’re happy.
