Two weeks ago, I offered what I thought was a pretty picture of the sun getting ready to wake up at 5:51 a.m., outside the store before my opening shift started exactly nine minutes later.
Yesterday I thought the view to the east was even more breath-taking.
Yes, it was again 5:51 a.m.
A lot can happen in two weeks during April, though, when you’re talking gaining minutes of daylight. This time, that yellow ball had come much closer to the horizon, bringing an array of color with it. The charts tell me official Syracuse sunrise was 6:02 a.m. Today it will be 6 a.m. sharp.
For good measure, I took a shot of the moon high over the store, still not ready to call it a night as I prepared to start my eight hours of paint department toil, plus one for lunch.
What were you doing at 5:51 a.m. yesterday, more akin to rising with the sun or setting with the moon? What’s your plans for today and this weekend? When is the next time you plan to see the sun rise?
Lovely photos. For the past week, I’ve been driving to work around 5:51, and I feel wrong somehow, going to work when it’s light out. However, next week I’m back on overtime and will make my brief commute in the dark. Then I try to remember to find a window to look out at sunrise, because we get some gorgeous skies around here.

Overtime is good come paycheck time, Cynthia. And sunrise must look awesome caught in a moment from a window, I’d think. Nice break, that.

True. I’ve just been glad to be off it during production week (community theatre play; I believe I’ve mentioned it once or twice in my blog). I have kind of a love/hate relationship with overtime but try to accentuate the positive.

5:51 will always find me asleep. My family has left me for the weekend (Larry visiting parents, kids otherwise occupied with camps, etc) and I am loving it. This is a Most Excellent weekend in my book. Hope yours is as well!

I sleep about 4 hrs, so I’m usually up at 5:51am. But I’m usually closing my eyes and praying to fall back asleep LOL. Nice image!

Mark, your photos were breath taking. At 5:51 a.m. I was riding my bicycle. I spotted a young rabbit. You never know what wonders you will see at that hour of the morning. 🙂

Thank goodness we have people like you to take these beautiful pictures otherwise, I would never know what a sunrise looks like! LOL. I can do sunsets, but it has to be a special occasion for me to rise with the sun. I remember a trip we made to Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, which is the first place to see the sunrise during certain months of the year and I made that exception to get up and see the beauty with my own eyes!!! 🙂

Yes, that would be a great place to see the sun come up, I’d say, up there in Maine, Mrs. B. 🙂 Have a great weekend, my friend. ❤

Nice photo Mark. I usually am out on the patio at sunrise, talking to Maxie, my dog, and drinking coffee. Don’t have much planned this weekend other than puttering around in the garden, planting flowers, doing laundry and taking naps. I did actually think about taking a little road trip to somewhere, but I am afraid it will cut into my nap time. Hope you have a great weekend!!!!!!!

That’s a gorgeous photo of the sunrise, Mark. At 5:51 am both yesterday and today, I was just getting up to start my day of 9-5 hell. A sunrise like yours would have made me feel a whole lot better.
