Would you rather

My good friend from the Florida portion of BloggyWorld, Rachel Carrera, Novelist, saw fit to include me on her list in the Would You Rather Book Tag Tour. As her blog title indicates, Rachel keeps very busy down Florida way writing superior fiction. As well as short stories that will make the eyes jump out of your head, Rachel also stocks her blog with true-life tales of she and sister Michelle. Her photographic skills and graphic talents shine, too. You may recall her as my friend who likes to take The Head and stick him into famous photographic scenes.

Give her link above a click if you’ve yet to meet.

So she tagged me on July 1. I’ve been Marky Latecomer these days as far as blog-reading goes, sorry to say, attempting to write the best I can and — get this — live a full summer with my dear wife Karen and Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle in and around the Little Bitty in the Syracuse city neighborhood of Eastwood. You know, so I can have some good stuff of which to write?

Then Rachel goes and tags me on a reading challenge. Gulp. Thank you, Rachel.

At my side, seriously.

At my side, seriously. My dear wife Karen is a good sport.

So the tour’s task is to answer these questions and then tag five other bloggers. Here I go.

Would you rather only read trilogies or only read standalones?
Standalones. I’m not a trilogy guy, though I do enjoy my LA crime guys, Michael Connelly and Robert Crais, who carry their characters Harry Bosch and Elvis Cole, throughout their series of novels.

Would you rather only read male or female authors?
Neither. Sorry. I had to go smartass on this question. I enjoy male and female authors. John Irving. Jane Smiley. Good with me.

Would you rather shop at Barnes and Noble or Amazon?
Border’s. Used to be until they closed that baby down in the Syracuse mega shopping, dining and entertainment complex Destiny USA’s predecessor Carousel Center. It had the best bargain tables of the brick-and-mortar stores around here. Now I prefer Barnes and Noble over Amazon. I like roaming the aisles.

Would you rather books were made into TV shows or movies?
Operas. Really? OK, here’s my pecking order: Theater movies. Pay cable movies. Cable network movies. Pay cable TV series. Cable network TV series. Broadcast network TV series.

Would you rather read only five pages per day or five books per week?
I would rather read five books per week. These days I’m closer to five pages per day.

Would you rather be a professional author or reviewer?
I would quite like to try the professional novelist robe on and see how it fits. Of course, first I’d actually have to write a novel. This is sort of a trick question for me, though, because I’ve been a professional reviewer of music and movies for quite a long time, and also have had non-fiction book work published as well, with more of that written and waiting to be included in a collection being published by a fellow blogger, and in the process of being written with yet another fellow blogger. Fiction is the great unknown frontier of writing for me, talked about and pondered forever, with just a bit of actual dabbling here in BloggyVille challenges.

Would you rather be a librarian or a bookseller?
With my penchant for checking books out of libraries, I would rather be a librarian. See my photo from the ugly but real-life living room stack on the living room end table next to my recliner even as I type this. Three library books are on deck.

Would you rather read only your favorite genre, or every other genre but your favorite?
Is it OK if I label my favorite genre authors that I like? Then I’d go with the former. Or I could go with my friend Rachel’ favorite, Amish fiction, and go with every other genre.

Would you rather only read ebooks or physical books?
I like reading the actual book in my actual hands. I do enough reading of (see above, re, blogs) things I can only get on my iPad.

Now that was interesting. For me to write, anyway. I can only hope you enjoyed reading along.

I now tag these five bloggers:

  1. I love a book, to hold, to read, to lose myself in. So why has it been so long since I’ve read one? Earlier this year I plowed through many! Then stopped again as blogland took over my reading time again……. perhaps it’s time to step away from the computer some more and pick up a book some more. 🙂

    Librarian….what a great job!!!!! 🙂

  2. I really miss Borders. We waited all night for the final Harry Potter book at the one in Richmond. That was our rainy day place to go, hang out and ruin my book budget.

  3. OMGOMGOMG DL! I LOVE ROBERT CRAIS!! And Elvis Cole’s partner, Joe, is awesomeness. In my head, he looks like Pitbull. Don’t laugh.
