Happiness Is

Daddy daughter day.

Daddy daughter day.

Why, yes, she is my daughter.

How did you know?

The party started with tailgating in the parking lot for the six of us: My dear wife Karen and I, Elisabeth and her boyfriend George Three, and his parents Susan and George Two.

With Father’s Day the following day, the timing could not have been better.

The food was good. Two members of the 1986 World Series-winning edition of my squad, the New York Mets, were in the house of the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs to sign autographs if you wished and say hello to fans.

A fireworks display was set off over the center-field fence after the game.

If the above photo isn’t enough to convince you, get a load of my gallery.

Here’s how this challenge works: You post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph that shares your insight or inspiration of or from the image.

This is the final installment of my entries in the Five Photos Five Series Challenge. My thanks to Amy Rose for nominating me to participate.

Today I nominate my friend Jen from her fine blog One Chicklette. Have fun!

  1. Nothing like a tailgate party and sports. What fun was had by all of you! HAPPINESS ALL AROUND! I am so glad you had a wonderful Father’s Day! (happy belated Father’s Day to YOU!)
I particularly love a tailgate party at a football game… I love college ball the best. I am reminiscing right now of my past tailgate parties at The Shoe in Columbus, Ohio. Yes I am an Ohio State Buckeye Fan! O-H-I-O!
I have wifi!!!! Please come over and see Antelope Canyon… I don’t want you to miss this magical place.

  2. LOVE the picture of you and your daughter! I almost didn’t add the comment, then I thought, “Well, sure he’d like to hear that one more time!” Glad you had such fun. I positively must make it to some ball games this summer. In addition to Little Falls’ Diamond Dawgs, I now find Utica has a team and I may yet make my way to Syracuse for the Chiefs.

  4. I didn’t know you had a daughter!?!?! I just thought you had a giant floating head profile pic that worked its way into historical photographs. This changes everything, Mark!

      • Real life? Circumstances? I know nothing of what you speak!

Personally, I think I’d be anchored to Syracuse by the fact that your team is called the Syracuse Orange. The only names that could surpass that awesomeness would be the Utica Grapefruit and the Schenectady Rutabaga, but neither of those teams actually exist!

      • I love the Terrapins! And the SC Gamecocks! And the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens, and the Wichita State Shockers, and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (who sadly are just the Warriors now), and my brother Rob’s favorite: The Wake Forest Demon Deacons!

      • To quote my one of my fave’s, Steely Dan:
They got a name for the winners of the world
        I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
        Call me Deacon Blues …

Thanks for the reminder of Donald Fagan’s shout out to to the Demon Deacons, King Dave!

  5. lovely picture of you and your daughter. Lovely photos all round – love your amusing comments to them with the dialogue between the captions and the pop-up comments. As for baseball. . . the only thing I know about the game is “Who’s on First?”

      • This is my way, cuz. When I mess up I do what I can to make amends to make sure that all is in the clear and that the relationship does not suffer. I’ve lost too many in my Life to allow a blooper or a misunderstanding fester, so I get everything in the open in the way I do things, just so all is square. 🙂 Love to you, cuz in Syracuse!!! ❤

  6. How can not my day be happy after seeing the glow of happiness on your face and your daughter’s face? Yes today I have had my coffee and I am not pressed for “time” due to an appointment. This comment I will not mess up. *OH Lord, here my prayer … Don’t let me mess up today commenting on Mark’s blog* …
FIRST!!! Happy Belated Father’s Day, cuz! How I missed saying that to you on Sunday … not going there. You and Elizabeth squeeze my Heart. Your precious faces really do glow as do Angels’ do. To know you are my cuz and your family is made of good stuff, gives me HOPE, especially with Elizabeth, for this country.
Now that I have said all that. Looking at your pics, my most immediate thought …. *checking to make sure it is not a faux pax* …. how sad that the stadium is so empty. There used to be days when baseball games were standing room only. What happened to America’s most beloved game?
Did you get any autographs from the Mets players? And lastly, really enjoyed your photographs.
Whew! I do believe I wrote this comment without one error, one stumble, one “hoof in mouth disease” phrase. Just again please take my word for it, my life has been so nuts taking care of a pretty ill cat along with all the rest of my cats, and fitting in everything else I do. I am slowing down today. No appointment. 🙂 Much Love to you, cuz from the east ❤

    • You are right, Amy Rose. Too few people at the game! Too much else to do in life, a assume. Baseball, minor-league variety, suffering here in Syracuse. Sigh.

I loved spending the time with my beautiful daughter and our families! I didn’t stand in line for the autographs and chose to spend the time with our six, family strong. Thanks, Cuz! ❤

      • *sighs* with you. Peeps just don’t make time to relax as they should. Life has gotten too fast, too busy, yet, IF we don’t make the time to enjoy ourselves, that will never happen. Sad to see how baseball is slowly dying. And good call at spending time with family instead of getting autographs. I would have done the same thing!!! ❤
