Freestyle writing challenge!

You may have seen this one going around BloggyVille. Needed: One egg timer, a yellow legal pad and a No. 2 yellow pencil.

No. Good Golly, Miss Molly. I am stuck in the 70s some days.

Lilrant tagged me for the Freestyle Writing Challenge after she had her way with the word work.

I accepted LR’s tap on the shoulder.

The Rules:

– Open an MS Word document.

– Set a stop watch or your mobile to 5 minutes or 10 minutes whichever challenge you think you can beat.

– You topic is at the foot of this post BUT DO NOT SCROLL DOWN TO SEE IT UNTIL YOU ARE READY WITH A TIMER.

– Fill the word doc with as many words as you want.

– Once you began writing do not stop even to turn.

– Do not cheat by going back and correcting spellings and grammar with spell check in MS WORD (it is only meant for you to reflect on your own control of sensible thought flow and for you to reflect on your ability to write the right spelling and stick to grammar rules)

– You may or may not pay attention to punctuation and CAPITALS.

– However if you do, it would be best.At the end of your post write down No. of words =_____’ so that we would have an idea of how much you can write within the time frame.

– Do not forget to copy paste the entire passage on your blog post with a new Topic for your nominees and copy paste these rules with your nominations (at least 3 bloggers).

I obviously chose to do this tag. I chose five minutes. And the word I had to work with was – Anarchy.

Speaker by Infinity. Pet hair by Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle. Only one generation removed from my college blasters made by Becker, believe it or not.

So what would happen if we had no government at all? You know, no president, no king, no queen? No cute little baby being born in the palace with all the camera people vying to take its picture to sell it to the highest bidder?

Anarchy. That’s what would happen. No rulers. People doing whatever they chose.

Men and women roaming in the streets like dogs and cats.

It would be just like a David Bowie song I used to put on my turntable and beamed out the window of my college dorm room when I was a freshman at State University of New York at Morrisville and we had two warm days in May. The album was “Diamond Dogs.”

And I cranked the volume up to 10 and everybody on campus heard Bowie and his band playing that song, especially the lyrics about rats the size of cats.

“This ain’t rock n roll. This is genocide.”

The students loved it, dancing on the quad, pumping their fists on the way to the dining hall to eat the mystery meat cloaked in universal gravy.

But the RA, he was pounding on my door shouting “Turn It Down. Turn It Down What do you think we have here? We have rules. This is not Anarchy!”

Word Count: 210

I nominate the following bloggers:

Your word is: hyperventilate.

Have fun, Wendy, Vonita and Jenny. I hope you accept my challenge and pass it along to three bloggers you respect and admire.

  1. What a fun article on the word, “Anarchy,” Mark! You did yourself ‘proud.’ When you have a timer you still capture quite a lot in the time allotted and you said so much, including memories of “Diamond Dogs,” too. Out loud and turned so everyone outdoors can hear. Yes, too bad there are rules but we need them, along with the rulers, Mark.

    • Thank you Prajakta. I had to write fast on deadline often in my past job, so this was revisiting my past in more ways than one. No surprise that I brought music into the mix, because music writing WAS my past job. ❤
