Happy Looney June from Syracuse

Happy June 1, world.

Ready for anything, are you, in this month meant for warm thoughts and summer play (up here in the northern hemisphere, anyway)?

Well, my friend Paul over at The Captain’s Speech was not content leaving it remain merely any old June. No, Paul, this Canadian fellow who lives even a bit farther past the equator than I here in Syracuse, N.Y., has proclaimed it Looney June. He wants us all here in BloggyVille to pay tribute to the cartoon characters he loves so much.

What could I do for his cause?

Water from the sky.

Water from the sky.

I looked outside the side porch door of the Little Bitty in our Eastwood neighborhood.

Wet steps.

Wet steps.

I studied the backyard situation.

Not moving, Da.

Not moving, Da.

I asked Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle if she might be up for leaving her post on the back porch futon and let me rig up some ears on her a la, say, Porky Pig, for a walk around the city.

These are the daily highs for this week.

These are the daily highs for this week.

No dice. She had apparently already joined my dear wife Karen in the living room and seen what they were calling for temperature-wise for the day.

Of course. It’s Monday, Our little golf league is due to tee off at 5:45.

Sorry, Paul. I wanted to join in.

Who’s your favorite Looney Tunes character? What would be your Looney June contribution given a free slate? What’s the weather this June 1 in your neck of our woods?

  2. Eh, What’s up Doc? My fave, all-time fave is Bugs Bunny Mark.

Looney made me think of Loonie, which is the name of the Canadian $1 coin. I’ll take 100 please and seeing our Canadian dollar is so low right now, it’ll probably only cost you about $35.50! 😉

      • I’ll have to dig out the photo of me in my tweety sweatshirt. I had been out for a week with bronchitis, and while I was extra little to begin with, I’d lost weight being so sick. My dog gave me a black eye by accident the night before. I insisted on wearing my tweety sweatshirt which had a stain on it back to school because it was comfortable. We had missed be memo about it being picture day 😦

      • That is so you, isn’t it? I need to see that picture, Hollie. Tweety should be your forever fave! Your family must have been dying. And look at you now. 🙂 Although you’re not above wearing stained stuff if it’s your favorite, I’ve read.

      • Summer in Australia is Much hotter than South Africa. It can get up to 45 degrees Celsius (don’t know Fahrenheit!) Winter is not as extreme, but we use the aircon in both the winter and summer months (not Spring or Autumn). I enjoy the winter (wrap up warm), and sitting in the winter sun 🙂 Rainy weather is my best, and especially thunderstorms. We don’t get that many in Sydney, and no snow 🙂 It was just strange that on the first day of winter yesterday, the weather suddenly dived and was really much colder than the day before 🙂

      • Mother Nature knew to dip it down for you on winter’s arrival, Vonita. It sounds as if you have it to your liking, with no snow and needing to wrap up warm. We have too much snow and too much cold here, so I really enjoy our nice summers. We don’t get that real sweltering summer. I can’t really convert our F to your C, either. Look at us, talking different languages in the same tongue. 😉 But we get to 90 F tops, usually in our summer. Have a great Tuesday, Vonita. Thanks for opening your window for me.

  3. As a birdwatcher, my favorite has to be Roadrunner! (Also, as a really slow runner he (it?) is my role model) Where I am its sunny and probably 90 something degrees with high humidity. Envious? And hey, you’re spreading the news about this wonderful celebration, so that counts for something! Happy Looney June!!!

  5. You’re telling me it’s in the 40s in June?! We’re under a UV advisory for a burn in 15 minutes. I can promise we will not get below 75 until October. After the rains, we are filled with mosquitoes and flies and bugs. Speaking of bugs, Bugs Bunny is my favorite, with a dash of Speedy Gonzales.

  6. Who was it that used to say ‘Suffering succotash!’ Was it Sylvester? I think it’s Sylvester that I like.

I like a gentle rainy day once a week or so… but I hate violent storms. The US experiences too many of them lately.

  7. Just one fave? Sorry, my fave Looney Tunes characters all tie up: Bugs, Taz, Roadrunner, Marvin. Bugs always pulls one over on Elmer and Yosemite Sam (and everyone else!). Taz is just cool! The Roadrunner always manages to go through that tunnel Wile E. paints. Marvin satisfies my odd fascination with explosions and ray guns. This week is finally typical June here: low to mid 70s, partly sunny most days, rain predicted for Wednesday (incidentally also the Rolling Stones concert in Mpls–at an outdoor stadium).

    • Enjoy the heck out of your week to swoon this first week in June, Julie. Say hi to Mick and Keith for me. I’ve seen them live a handful of times, in the ’90s and ’00s. Amazing longevity there, real-life versions of your long list of faves, if you will, known for what they’ve been giving us for all these years, and still. Thanks for the follow, and coming by. I’m glad we met through the other blog just this weekend.

  8. It’s drizzly and wet and cold for June 1- 50 degrees right now. I always liked Roadrunner with his Beep Beep! (fits my type A personality maybe)and that is how I feel today, I’d like to run right away from this weather 🙂
