They say imitation is the cheapest greatest form of thievery flattery. So with no shame at all, I’m putting a small twist to the most excellent Nano Poblano group effort short story started by Fish of Gold. Yes, Team Pepper, Little Pepper, my friends in November bloggery, I am starting Nano Poblamo Blog Hop II The Name Game.
Here’s why. I was tagged by Grandma Lin yesterday to write my contribution to Fish of Gold’s great hop, and then went through our Nano Poblano home base page to find another blogger to tag. Why not get another post in the chain, I thought, to keep squad members happy.
Coincidentally, earlier Tuesday, my debut post for the Blog of Funny Names was published. That place concentrates of folks of fame. But the process got me thinking about regular people in my life with interesting names.
Well sure, I thought. Here’s a Blog Hop writing challenge.
The Rules:
1. Write a paragraph or two about somebody from an ordinary walk of life with an unordinary name. It can either be a true story about somebody you know with that name, or a fictional piece about somebody with a name you made up.
2. After you’re done posting your story, send me an email to markbialczak@gmail.com with your Blog Hop II, your blog name and either TRUE STORY or MADE IT UP in the subject line. (I have told my dear wife Karen the status of my story below.)
3. Pick another Nano Poblano team member from the home page and tag them on their About page. Try to spread the wealth around from Fish of Gold’s original blog hop to start, but duplication is OK as the month rolls along.
4. The writing cutoff is Nov. 28. By the end of Nov. 29, email to me at markbialczak@gmail.com a list with a guess of TRUE STORY or MADE UP for each post on the blog hop. Put Blog Hop II, Final Guesses in the subject line.
5. The Nano Poblano team member with the most correct answers wins a special prize, which I will mail to them. That means you will have to email me your address if you win.
6. Have fun.

All through my years of junior high school, the biggest kid in class always had the shortest nickname.
And this was a nice kid, too, smart and personable, and always ready to make the whole classroom crack up laughing whenever there was a substitute teacher.
The sub would grab the attendance sheet. Come to this kid’s name on the list and look. And stare. And start to say it. And the kid would make the teacher pronounce his whole name every time. “Augusto Emilio Williamson Cortez Junior?” “Here.” Would come the answer.
Then …
“But you can call me Tito.”
And it brought the class down. Every time.

You know it takes talent on your part to remember this classmate’s whole name, along with the great story about his ‘act’ with substitutes! Hilarious and I can just see and hear the roar of the students as he said, “Just call me Tito!” Awesome and you captured this idea and ran with it, Mark!

Great name story, Mr. B! I can so relate to the looong name which in the end is shortened to a very short nick name. All of my puerto rican relatives have long names with short nick names. In fact, one family uses Tito, Tita, Tuti & Cachi as their nicknames! Most of us hispanic women are Marias so we all have nick names just to differentiate.

I know Tito was Hispanic, so he was in the same realm, Maria. If the story is true, that is, and not a figment of my increasingly fertile imagination, Mrs. B. 😮 I like all the nickhames in the one branch of your Puerto Rican fam, my glam friend. ❤

I worked with a woman who was Josephina bla, bla, bla, bla, Wainwright. I don’t remember the other names but it was her baptism, confirmation, middle, maiden and last her married name. She ring it off so fast that I couldn’t ever catch them.
