Oh, what a week it was at the Cape

On the first day that my dear wife Karen and I woke up back in Syracuse after a week at the precious little cottage owned and cherished by our wonderful Central New York friends Julie and Lisa, I give thanks to all it gave us.

Welcoming appeal.

Welcoming appeal.

From the front that greeted us every time we pulled into the private lane.

Privacy, too.

Privacy, too.

To the back that secured us with Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle running free within its fence.

A happy day to all those men who think they pull the strings.

A happy day to all those men who think they pull the strings.

And, with this being a special day on the calendar, one last shot of a Cape Cod T-shirt with a pertinent message, too.

Happy Father’s Day to all.

What is the best Father’s Day you’ve ever spent, with your father, or as a father? What are your plans for today?

  1. This was such a fun ‘ride along’ on your vacation, Mark! I am so glad you showed the exterior of this cheerful and attractive cottage! I think it is always nice to have friends who share their place, and like you, I would be happy to pay to stay somewhere ‘a home away from home!’ Glad you will be watching the U.S. Open and Nascar, since I will be watching neither of these! Smiles, Robin

    • Thank you, Diana. We are very grateful that Julie and Lisa love the Cape enough to continue to own this cottage. It’s a six-hour trip, and it’s a labor of love for them to keep it up for the amount of time they can actually spend there themselves. And we also consider ourselves fortunate to be among those they trust enough to rent this great home to when they cannot be there.

      • I have a friend who has a condo in AZ. She does the same thing with her friends. She doesn’t charge though, But when people go they put money into the household jar. And if the coffee is running out, we buy more. same with shampoo and other items.

We give the condo a good cleaning. before we leave, clean sheets on the bed and dirty ones into the washer. the next group washes the sheets when they get there and put the dirty ones in the washer for the next group and so on.

The couple that owns the condo is very generous. Oh and some folks have even bought patio furniture, etc and left it there!

      • I do believe we get a great rate in an expensive vacation zone, Diana, and we are glad to help them any way we can. My dear wife Karen makes sure we leave the cottage as spotless as we found it, and no bragging, I am kind of a neat guy anyway. It’s a happy relationship all around because each year, we strike a deeper affection for the area.
