I left the reminder of the beauty where it landed.
The peony in the corner of the front of our home in the Syracuse city neighborhood of Eastwood gave us its all during a furious week of budding and beauty.
A full 15 flowers shot out of that one sturdy green plant in one week. They lasted slightly longer than that. I let the petals lie where they fell until I swept them up with the lawn mower.
Bye, bye peonies. See you next year, if all is right with the world.
Hello, yellow roses.
But my dear wife Karen and Mother Nature have planned things well. For a mere three strides from that corner patch sits our hourglass garden.
And raising its head to the world now from there is one rather healthy yellow rose. Other buds are there. It looks like it will be a good year for these babies.
Hello red roses.
Also coming up are just an arm’s length from the yellow fellow is a splash of red.
The flowers are smaller, but already more plentiful.
Great timing, so far.
Another red is kicking up in the corner of the backyard, too.

The cycle of your gardens is like the cycle of life. Such a great post with a simple message but profound implications. I like the little red and yellow rose buds, leaving the petals in the grass and the other nice things I see in your garden like the hostas! Pretty gardens, Mark! (and Karen…)

🙂 Suffering from sugar hangover this morning Mark. I don’t drink but I am one hundred percent sure I would have felt better if I had gone outside and smelled that fresh air. But then….I would have missed the joy of CAPTAIN AMERICA last night! 🙂 I have a team of three who are seeing me through these movies this summer. 😀

the team of karen and mother nature simply cannot be beat. i am always so excited to see what is budding and blooming and popping out next. no roses here yet, but i have daisies and and poppies and dandelions galore and it smells like summer coming!

I always feel sadness when my plants finish their work, but there’s usually another plant ready to show it’s hard work off. My roses are still blooming, but the heat is on now, looks like it will be in the 100’s today, that really hurts my plants.

Peonies gone, but something else to look forward to! We have Vitex, purple cones blooming, and little green fig buds on the tree. It smells like the last day of school; that’s what it smells like today.

Wow, your roses came out early, Irene! We had an olive tree for our first eight years here, but a big wind blew it down. It was small, no olives to yield, no blossoms to smell, really. But the wood was very pretty!

Here in Virginia, the roses are blooming like mad as is the salvia, the asiatic lilies, the penstemon. The daylilies are budding. And the air is heavy with honeysuckle. Not that I garden or anything…..
