Now and then

Pretty spring in Eastwood.

Pretty spring in Eastwood.

Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle and I passed this pretty little corner of a neighbor’s front yard this April 19 in our morning walk through the Syracuse city neighborhood of Eastwood.

Nice looking pine backed by a lawn yearning to turn green.

Rather unassuming, though, right?

But does it look vaguely familiar?

The last time I used my iPhone 4 to snap this spot was the morning of Feb. 9.

ON that morning, our tree more resembled a snowman.

Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful if this were a giant snowman.

Oh, wouldn’t it be wonderful if this were a giant snowman.

What a difference 2 months and 10 days make.

And a happy spring day to you, too.

Do you like to take before-and-after pictures? What’s the best contrast you’ve ever caught with the lens?

  1. I made the mistake once of having a friend take a before photo of me before a big Throw Down Party (we were in the Navy), with the instruction that he take an after photo…after the Throw Down.
    Never again.
    Made me stop drinking.
    For two whole days…

  2. Yes, I love your B&A photos. 🙂 As for me, you ask… Well, my answer is a little biased because I’ve been a professional photographer for the past several years, and am trying to make this year my last. So with that in mind, I think my favorites are when I do newborn babies then their 1 year birthday with the same items in the photo. (Such as I recently did a new baby IN his daddy’s doctor’s black bag and then on his first birthday, he was HOLDING the same bag.) As for my NON-professional stuff, I think my B&A’s are mostly things like when I paint or decorate a room. I wish I had your snow to photo before and after. 🙂

    • I think your newborn and 1-year baby photo ideas are awesome, Rachel. Why are you getting out of that photography thing? To concentrate on writing? Then OK! :-O

No snow for you, just cactuses, huh? That’s a thorny dilemma.

      • Not cactuses…. cactussesses. 😉 Yes, I’m getting out to write as well as the industry is tanking. At least in Florida, people would rather put money into booze at their reception and not into remembering the day. There is no happy medium. As for portraits, they are becoming a thing of the past with more people taking selfies for their Facebook wall than portraits to hang on the wall of their house. 🙂 So writing is a good new direction to to focus. 😀

      • That’s sad about the downfall of wedding and portrait photography, Rachel. A selfie with the phone does not a professional photo make. I hope the writing does it for you, career wise. It’s a tough road professionally as well.

      • A necessity when you put your writing out there for others to see. 😉 There’s always those who will find something wrong. It’s just learning to take away what you can really learn from and being able to disregard the rest. 🙂

    • I remember the Ann Arbor Fairy Village photo well, Beth.

The other pines behind our house, thank you for asking, will be looked at this week by the Syracuse city arborist. I got a message left from him yesterday that he will be by to look at them next week. Yay!

  4. It’s looking good out there! I love before and after shots. Have you heard of Dear Photograph? I’ve been wanting to do that for awhile. Did you ever hear back from that arborist about your tree out back?
