ABC, it’s not so easy as 1-2-3

My fellow Syracuse blogger Christopher S. Malone always has a stylized account of life as a guy turning 31 to share on his interestingly titled blog, The Infinite Abyss(es).

He decided I was worthy to be on his list of nominations for the ABC Award. That would be Awesome Blogging Content, for those of you playing a whole set of blocks at home.

Thank you, Chris. I love the cool badge.

Why not take a look-see at what he’s up to?

ABC Award

The rules of this blog award are:

1. Display the logo on your bog.

2. Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog.

3. Using the alphabet, describe yourself using a word or phrase.

4. Nominate eight deserving bloggers for the award and them of the nomination.

Describe yourself with the alphabet:

A – Amicable as much as possible.

B – But sometimes I just have to grump about foolish behavior.

C – Cool under deadline.

D – Desperately searching a catchy term for those of us born in 1957, because we all turn 57 this year. My blogging friend Beth is the winner so far with ’57 Heavy, but there’s still time to chip in.

E – Every spring, I’m optimistic that New York Mets can have a good season.

F – Foolish in my sports fanship. See above. Add the Maryland Terps, New York Jets and New York Islanders to my list.

G – Good with words.

H – Hiccup in my words-career in 2013, laid off after 29-plus years at the same daily newspaper/website.

I – Involved with two other worthy Syracuse media sites now, and ready for more reinvention.

J – Jam-lover, musically.

K – Kiner’s Korner-lover growing up. RIP host broadcaster Ralph Kiner, gone this month at the age of 91.

L – Live in Syracuse, 31 years now, loving the spring, summer and falls.

M – More miserable every winter in Syracuse, N.Y.

N – Need to keep the dream to retire to Hawaii with my dear wife Karen.

O – Open to living in a studio condo on Oahu.

P – Pet lover of our beloved rescue mutt, Ellie B, aka Dogamous Pyle.

Q – Quick to make friends.

R – Rocked as a popular music critic for 21 years.

S – Springsteen, Steely Dan, still my two favorites.

T – Titanic lover of annual cruise ship vacations with my dear wife Karen.

U – Under water, no thank you. I can’t really swim.

V – Vexed by selfish people who think they’re above accepted norms.

W – Wicked happy to spend a week’s vacation renting our friends’ cottage on Cape Cod.

X – Xylophone players give me good vibes.

Y – Young at heart.

Z – Zany when I get a couple beers in my.

  2. Thank you! I seem to recall coming across this award before because I did the alphabet using pictures I had already drawn, but that was probably back when I was pretty intent on ignoring any awards that came my way. Thanks for the second chance at this one…

  3. This was a very wonderful post, today, Mark! I accept my nomination with humility. Knowing our paths have just recently crossed, is even more amazing to me that you chose me to be on this short list of nominees!
I am sometimes grumpy, I like the two S musicians and I feel ‘young at heart,’ too!
Thank you very much! I will get around to this very soon and appreciate this honor, too! Smiles, Robin

  4. Congrats and also thanks at the same time. I’ve never been to the northeast, so I wonder what Syracuse and Cape Cod are like. I don’t know what your group should be called (I only think of Heinz 57), but your theme song should be Springsteen’s “57 Channels (And Nothin’ On).” Makes more sense than “Hey, Nineteen.”
